Q: Where are you from and what did you do before opening your business?

A: Andy is a native of Chandler and Sandy is from Albuquerque, N.M. Andy catered school lunches for charter schools and has been in the restaurant business for more than 20 years. Sandy is retired from Qwest Communications. We also run concessions for the Glendale Youth Sports Complex located on the University of Phoenix Stadium property. Sonny Woods, pitmaster and partner, is also a native of Chandler. He has been running Sonny’s BBQ Catering for more than 20 years. He and Andy attended high school together.

 

Q: Why did you open your business in Ahwatukee Foothills?

A: We have been residents for 17 years and like the closeness of the community. Each of our five children attended school here.

 

Q: How did you get the idea to open your business?

A: We felt that barbecue and hot dogs were a good combination. We wanted to keep the menu to just those two items. There’s no other local hot dog place in town. We’re just a “Lil’ Place with Big Taste” (our slogan).

 

Q: What type of merchandise/services do you sell?

A: Eisenberg all-beef dogs, brats and sausages. Pecan apple wood-smoked pulled pork, pulled chicken, chopped brisket. We also smoke and grill our wings and sell homemade beef jerky. We have ribs on Thursdays and fried catfish on Fridays.           

 

Q: What does your business offer that no one else does?

A: The “3-foot Challenge.” First person to eat the 3-foot Junkyard Dog in one hour will get $50, a hat and their picture on the “Wall of Wieners!” The Junkyard Dog consists of chili cheese, bacon, onions and Fritos and we top it with French fries.

We also have an all-beef Angus Sirloin Dog, a variety of ways to top any dog you want and take special requests for barbecues. Just ask us the day before and we will have it for you. We are also offering business delivery between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

 

Q: How have residents of the community responded to your business?

A: We have had great response from the community, lots of repeat business and some nice reviews. We just did Red ,White and Boom! for Fourth of July.

 

Q: What does your business have in store for the future?

A: We are extremely small and can only seat two tables inside and two outside, so expanding seating would be our goal for the future.

 

Q: Anything else you want the community to know about you or your business?

A: Our location is off the Warner/Elliot Loop where they meet in the middle at Equestrian Trail. We may be a little off the beaten path for some residents, but it would be worthwhile for them to join us for great hot dogs and barbecue. We are very friendly and may remind you of the mom-and-pop place some of you grew up with.
