Lewis joins

JDRF board

Kimberly Lewis of Ahwatukee Foothills-based Sovereign Finance has been named to the board of directors for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Desert Southwest Chapter.

The board of directors drives the fundraising and outreach efforts of the Desert Southwest Chapter, which raised nearly $5 million in fiscal year 2009 through fundraising events such as The Promise Ball and annual Walk to Cure Diabetes.

JDRF  was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes. Since its inception, JDRF has provided nearly $1.4 billion to diabetes research worldwide. More than 85 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF’s mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

Donations needed for Red, White and Boom fireworks

The Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce is inviting community members to make donations of $5 or more to help keep the Red, White and Boom fireworks show in Ahwatukee Foothills.

For a donation of $25 or more, be a “Friend of the Fireworks” and display a commemorative decal in your home, business or car.

This year’s fireworks will be on Saturday, July 3, at the Ahwatukee Country Club.

‘Boomer Bear’ offered to benefit fireworks

The Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce is in the process of raising money for the 2010 Red, White and Boom Community Fireworks Celebration and is offering commemorative “Boomer Bears” for  $15 each. Each plush bear stands 13 inches high and has a paw stamped with “2010.” The bears are made by Toy Town in Ahwatukee Foothills.

Board of Director nominations

Preparations are under way for the Mountain Park Ranch Homeowners Association (MPRHOA) Annual Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 19.

Two of the five Board of Director positions will be voted on this year. Nominations are being accepted in the MPR office, 15425 S. 40th Place, Suite 4, for the open positions until July 8. MPRHOA by-laws allow board members to serve two consecutive two-year terms.

Promote your business, cater Chamber breakfast

Then the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce’s monthly Get to Know Your Chamber breakfast is the place for you! The breakfasts are generally attended by about 30 people that you would need to cater for.

Nominations open for annual Business in the Arts Awards

Nominations are being accepted in six categories for the 20th annual Business in the Arts Awards.   Winners will be announced at the Business in the Arts Awards Breakfast, presented by Wells Fargo, taking place from 7 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at The Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel.

The categories are Large Business Partner of the Year, Mid-Size Business Partner of the Year, Small Business Partner of the Year, Arts Organization of the Year, Arts Advocate of the Year and Arts Board Member of the Year.

The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. Monday, July 5.

East Valley Business Breakfast Group

The East Valley Business Breakfast Group meets on the third Thursdays of each month from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the Community Room at the Chandler Police Department, 251 N. Desert Breeze Blvd., Chandler.

The EVBBG is a not-for-profit volunteer organization promoting growth of small, minority, women and diverse business owners. No membership is required, and services are provided by experts and professional mentors.

LeadZSmart business meetings on Wednesdays at chamber

A LeadZSmart Leads Group meets every Wednesday at the Ahwatukee Chamber of Commerce, 10235 S. 51st Street, Suite 185. A meet and greet starts at 7:30 a.m. and the meeting is from 8 to 9 a.m.

All who attend will have a 60-second intro at the beginning of the meeting, followed by a 10-minute member presentation. The meeting will also include a helpful lead referral lesson and group discussion.

Interested in hosting a chamber event?

Hosting an event for the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce is a way to get your business noticed.

Tuesday morning mixers are from 8 to 9 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at a local business. Dates needing hosts are July 13, Aug. 10, Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 14. Wednesday evening mixers are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, also at local businesses. Open dates are June 16, July 21, Aug. 18, Oct. 20 and Nov. 17.
