A study released by Arizona State University this week shows bowl games played in the Phoenix area generated an estimated $354.6 million for the Arizona economy this past winter.

The economic bonanza from visiting football fans set records for the BCS National Championship Game and the Insight Bowl.

The study shows the Fiesta Bowl's attendance slipped and the overall economic impact was off 11.7 percent from 2006-2007, the last time the Fiesta Bowl hosted three college-football games.

The study was commissioned by the Fiesta Bowl and comes as the Scottsdale-based non-profit organization rebuilds following a scandal that involved lavish spending, free trips for lawmakers and a campaign-contribution scheme.
