The Phoenix Mercury is teaming with the Phoenix Herpetological Society (PHS) and the Desert Gator Club, with a portion of ticket proceeds from an upcoming game to benefit PHS, on Aug. 7.

PHS is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and preservation of native and non-native reptiles in Arizona and the sale of tickets to the Aug. 7 Mercury game will be at a special reduced price to benefit PHS.

Discounted tickets are $17 each for lower-level seats that normally sell for $49 each. The Mercury, two-time WNBA champions, will play the Connecticut Sun at 3 p.m. at US Airways Center.

The Desert Gator Club is a University of Florida Alumni organization open to alumni, students and friends in the state of Arizona.

The Desert Gators became involved with the Phoenix Herpetological Society in 2005 when club president Gary Manton learned that 32 alligators were going to be cared for at the facility, after being confiscated by authorities because they were transported illegally across the Arizona state line.

Manton's instincts told him that "Gators" should look after gators.

As part of game day activities, the Desert Gators will have a meet and greet with Mercury assistant coach and University of Florida alumnus, Bridget Pettis. Pettis was also a Mercury player for six seasons.

Tickets for the game may be purchased by contacting Krissy Keen of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury at (602) 379-7578 or kkeen@suns.com.
