Charity receives grant from Governor's Office of Energy Policy to install solar panels and uses energy costs savings to further its mission.

Catholic Charities Community Services received a $50,000 grant from the Governor's Office of Energy Policy to install solar equipment at its corporate offices. The energy cost savings from the new system will further fund the agency's mission of helping the community's most vulnerable.

Overall, the Governor's Office of Energy Policy has awarded more than $2.4 million to 57 non-profit organizations statewide who have obtained more than $3 million in leverage funding to total more than $5.4 million for renewable energy projects in Arizona.

The 60-panel roof-mounted system was supplemented by an $11,000 energy incentive from Arizona Public Service and will reduce energy cost by more than $61,000 over the life of the equipment.

Catholic Charities plans to expand such systems to all of its buildings throughout Central and Northern Arizona, including its offices, shelters and housing units.
