The area near Gila River Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino is about to be a lot busier with the announcement of new premium outlet stores coming in 2013.

Simon Property Group, Inc., owner, developer and manager of retail real estate country-wide, is set to open the new outlets directly adjacent to the casino and hotel just off Interstate 10 at Exit 162.

Phase one of the project will include a 360,00-square-foot building with about 90 outlet stores, according to a press release by the group.

Construction on the new outlets is expected to begin in 2012 and the stores are slated to open in the spring of 2013.

“The combination of great outlet shopping and a world-class resort, spa, golf and hotel and casino will offer an unparalleled experience for area residents and visitors,” said John R. Klein, president of the Simon Premium Outlets platform. “Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino is a AAA Four Diamond Award property and is a perfect fit for the type of discriminating shoppers who enjoy our properties.”

The only other Simon property in Arizona is Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe, which opened an indoor aquarium in May of last year and contains more than 150 shops.

The names of merchants for the new outlet in Chandler are not expected to be released until a few months before opening.

“We are very excited about this new project,” said Michele Rothstein, senior vice president of marketing for Simon Property Group, Inc. “Now that we are moving forward, we will be working on bringing a strong mix of merchants to the center.”
