Police nab bank robber
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Bank robber Jose Luis Morales Jr., 32, apparently didn’t learn much in prison.
He was arrested Nov. 5 on suspicion of robbing the Bank of America branch inside an Ahwatukee Foothills Fry’s at 3949 E. Chandler Blvd. on Oct. 22.
Police say it wasn’t his first time demanding cash from a teller.
According to prison and court records, Morales was released from prison on parole for a previous bank robbery conviction on Oct. 16. Tucson police suspect that Morales then turned around and robbed a Chase bank branch the following day. Five days later Phoenix police say Morales entered the bank in Ahwatukee and demanded cash, then escaped in a waiting taxi.
According to Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson, Morales was taken into custody for parole violation and will serve out the remaining months from his original bank robbery conviction before being turned over to federal authorities for adjudication in the two most recent bank robberies.
