Same man may be responsible for two other Tempe bank heists

It was so smooth that no one in the Wells Fargo Bank branch realized a holdup was taking place Monday around 11 a.m., except for one teller and the robber himself.

According to Phoenix police Sgt. Phil Roberts the man walked into the branch at 51st Street and Elliot Road, presented a note, indicated he was armed, and walked out with an undisclosed amount of money.

Roberts said no one was injured in the robbery and that the man fled in an unknown direction.

One reason the robbery went so smoothly may be that it wasn't his first bank heist.

Roberts said detectives believe that the man, described as a black male, around 5 feet, 9 inches tall, heavyset, wearing a dress shirt and tie with a black beanie, may be responsible for two recent bank robberies in Tempe.

The first occurred Dec. 11 at a First Federal Credit Union near the Arizona Mills Mall on Baseline Road. The second robbery in Tempe was Dec. 15 at Heritage Bank near McClintock Drive and Broadway Road

In both cases the man, described as a black male, around 20 years old, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, was wearing a dress shirt with a tie and a black, knit beanie.

Roberts said that because the suspect indicates he's armed, people should consider him armed and dangerous.

"We want people to be a good witness and call," Roberts said, adding that no one should try and confront the man.

Healthcare reform
In a final push for a sweeping healthcare overhaul, President Barack Obama urged a simple "up-or-down" vote on the legislation. What would your vote be?
Up! Let's get this thing passed already!
The proposals look good on paper, but I'm still hesitant about its execution.
Down. It's time to go back to the drawing board.
