The past eight months have been a blur for Kiana Brown.

In October 2011, Brown won the 2011 KIDZ Star USA Grand Prize and with that came national recognition as an up-and-coming singer and performer. From recording her first single to preparing for an upcoming national tour, the teenager is getting a crash course in the music industry.

Since that fateful day in October when Brown, 15, was called out in front of her Mountain Pointe High School classmates at an assembly, things have rolled along for the Ahwatukee Foothills resident. She was featured in “A Mermaid Tale 2” and her YouTube video has more than 160,000 views, and she recently finished her first single, “Hey Chica,” which will be available to the public on June 19.

Brown said she had the opportunity to listen to and select from her top three song choices. After considering and listening to the songs, she said she chose “Hey Chica” because of the up-beat tempo.

“It sounds good and it gives me chills,” Brown said. “It was really cool hearing it for the first time. Just hearing everything come together and flow after working on it was a neat experience. I think it sounds so amazing.”

After the single releases, the fun doesn’t stop there. Brown will embark on a 23-city tour beginning in August with the crew from Kidz Bop.

“I couldn’t have asked to do this with a better group of people,” Brown said. “I’m looking forward to being on stage and bringing talented performers to the kids who are in the audience and making them happy.”

Brown said that she will be missing the first month of her sophomore year for the tour, but will be taking online classes to make sure she doesn’t miss anything. She begins rehearsing for the tour on July 6.

Her song will be featured on the “Kidz Bop 21” CD, which will be released later this year. In addition to that, Brown will be recording a music video in the next couple of weeks.

“It’s crazy because at this moment, I don’t realize how big everything is and how much I am doing,” she said. “I don’t think it will hit me until later on. But I love it and I’m excited for what is to come.”
