In partnership with the Tempe Union High School District, the East Valley Women’s League offers scholarship opportunities to local high school students nearing graduation.

Students from Arizona State University, Maricopa County Community Colleges and Tempe Union have received nearly 50 scholarships to Arizona schools since the league began in 2001.

With its partnership with Tempe Union starting about three years ago for its “Anything is Possible” scholarship, chairperson Barbara Anselmo said the league is “thrilled to help young students.”

To date, the league has awarded a combined $100,000 to its recipients and has many Ahwatukee members.

The league is currently involved in a dozen different philanthropies like its four scholarship funds, food drives, a prom dress drive for girls, pregnancy centers, and more.

With its 56 members, most from Ahwatukee, and 26 life members, the nonprofit league began after its two founding sisters wanted to reach out to the underprivileged women and children in the East Valley.

“We really want to focus on all that encompasses women and kids,” Anselmo said.
