Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Anne Gill has announced she will be resigning from her post, effective Sept. 20.

“I have truly enjoyed working with all of you and helping to take the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber to a new level,” Gill said in a statement on Thursday. “The chamber is an exceptional organization that has given me the opportunity to influence real change and connect to the pulse of our community. I’m proud of the successes we’ve shared over the past two years and the chamber has a great board to direct it to new heights. This of course has been a very difficult decision, but my family comes first and I am excited about the opportunities ahead.

“The chamber has a special place in my heart and as a member of the chamber I look forward to hearing about the future successes of the chamber and the businesses that it serves.”

Gill’s family company has grown over the past two years and she will be taking a more active role in that company.

“Anne has worked closely with the board for the past two years and we are disappointed to see her leave,” said Peter Menor, chairman of the Ahwatukee chamber board. “As chamber president, Anne was a dedicated advocate for Ahwatukee’s business community and worked hard at improving its economic vitality. Through Anne’s diligence, the Ahwatukee chamber is financially healthy with exciting potential for growth.”

Gill has been president of the chamber since November of 2011 when she took over for Terri Kimble, who left to take a position at the Chandler Chamber of Commerce.

In just under two years at the chamber Gill was key in starting the Ahwatukee Chamber Charity Foundation, she started the Main Street Ahwatukee partnership with the Ahwatukee Foothills News and Cash Mob Saturday, she found the chamber a new office with better public access and increased membership. Gill is leaving the chamber in a good position financially, especially since the chamber just received a large donation from San Tan Ford.

“I’m surprised to hear she is leaving and sorry to see her leave,” said Sen. John McComish, who has been involved with the chamber since its inception. “I think the chamber has grown nicely under her leadership and seems to have a new energy, which I think is great. I hope that can continue.”

Before taking her position at the chamber Gill served as executive director of the WellCare Foundation. She has a bachelor’s degree in international business and is a marketing specialist with experience in corporate development and community outreach, fundraising and special events management.

“She has been a tremendous CEO of the chamber,” said Joseph Ortiz, a chamber member. “Her business acumen will be missed. I wish her much success.”

The board of directors has begun a transition plan and chamber staff will continue to oversee the day-to-day operations of the chamber.
