Phoenix police are searching for a man who used a wheelchair as part of a disguise to rob a bank at 40th Street and Chandler Boulevard.

The man reportedly entered the bank at 4000 E. Chandler Blvd. around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in a wheelchair, said Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department. The suspect waited for other customers to leave before standing up and using a handgun to demand money.

Once the robber had the cash he fled on foot through the strip mall. Police are not saying how much cash was taken.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his late 20s or early 30s. He is about 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches and weighs approximately 180 pounds. At the time of the robbery he was clean-shaven and wearing sunglasses, a tan straw hat, a blue pin-stripe shirt and jeans.

Anyone with information can call Phoenix police or Silent Witness at (480) 948-6377.
