Local schools are asking parents to be cautious after receiving reports that a man in a white pickup truck tried to abduct a 9-year-old boy in Ahwatukee Foothills recently.

Horizon Community Learning Center, a charter school at 16233 S. 48th St., sent a letter to students' parents Friday, Nov. 5, based on information it received from the Kyrene School District about a "white balding man, in a white full-size pickup truck," who allegedly attempted to lure the unidentified boy into the vehicle on Oct. 20.

Lt. Mark Tallman, Phoenix Police Department spokesman, said the reported incident happened at about 5 p.m. in the 15000 block of South 43rd Place.

"He drove up next to (the boy) and told him to get in the car," Tallman said.

The boy ran to a friend's house, and police were notified, he said.

"At this point we're still looking. We don't have any specific suspects," Tallman said. "We certainly want people to be cautious and aware."

He said it appeared to be an isolated incident.

"We don't think there is any kind of serial problem," Tallman said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department's Crime Stop line at (602)262-6151.
