Two major fundraisers for the Festival of Lights have been split up this weekend.

In what is usually a one-day, combined event, the 2012 Festival of Lights Charity Golf Tournament benefiting the Festival of Lights will take place on Sunday, June 3 while the Wine and Beer Tasting Festival will be on Saturday, June 2.

Money raised from both events will go to the annual light display that has become a staple of holiday celebration in Ahwatukee Foothills. This will be the 17th consecutive year for the Festival of Lights display.

Tickets for the wine tasting can be purchased for $40 in advance at www.folaz.org, or for $50 at the door on Saturday night at the Foothills Golf Club, 2201 E. Clubhouse Drive. The event averages about 1,000 people, who come for an evening of wine and beer tasting, with more than 50 varieties to sample. The wine tasting will be from 7 to 10 p.m. and the Lil Debbie Band will provide the music over the course of the community gathering.

The Charity Golf Tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Foothills Golf Club. The cost is $100 for individuals and $375 for a foursome. That price includes a round of golf, a cart,a buffet lunch, range balls, a goody bag and entrance into multiple drawings.

Golfers can register at Safeway or through the Festival of Lights website.

The Festival of Lights has survived on community support, both financially and through the donation of volunteer hours. Every year, more than a million lights span Chandler Boulevard from Thanksgiving to New Years night due to the dedication of Ahwatukee Foothills residents.

Volunteers for both events are also needed. To sign up, or to find out more information, visit www.folaz.org.
