Drivers should anticipate lengthy delays on Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Casa Grande through the afternoon commute because of a serious crash involving hazardous materials, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The highway’s westbound lanes are closed north of Casa Grande, but significant backups have been observed in both directions on this major travel corridor.

All westbound traffic is being detoured near Casa Grande onto state routes 387 and 87. ADOT is advising drivers to anticipate significant delays and to consider alternate routes around the Casa Grande area.

Drivers traveling on westbound I-10 from Tucson to Phoenix should consider driving north on State Route 79 through Florence and then to US 60 at Florence Junction. Travelers going from Phoenix to Tucson should consider taking US 60 eastbound through the East Valley, and turning south on SR 79 at Florence Junction.

ADOT anticipates the westbound I-10 closure and heavy congestion in both directions could extend into the afternoon commute. Drivers should plan for extended travel times or consider delaying travel until the highway reopens.

For the most current information about highway closures and restrictions statewide, visit ADOT’s Travel Information Site at www.az511.gov or call 5-1-1.
