The Ahwatukee Swim and Tennis Center is about to get a little spookier.

The 11th Annual Hayride and Haunted House will take place Oct. 26-28 at the Swim and Tennis Center, 4700 E. Warner Road. The event will go from 6 to 10 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, and from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Visitors will take a hayride and guided tour through Area 51 and a zombie-filled graveyard. They’ll be dropped off at a scary asylum and just past that, enter the Garden of Evil. After the Garden of Evil comes the Ahwa-spooky trail that leads to a fun house. Visitors will also enter a dungeon, a swamp and, finally, the Bates Motel. All will be spread out across 3 acres of the baseball field and surrounding park.

Each year there is something new added to the haunted house. Susan Hyden, community center director, said this year there will be more added to the Garden of Evil and the Bates Motel.

Also new this year, there will be more tables and chairs set up outside the haunted house so that visitors can sit, eat and enjoy themselves after the ride. There will be hot dogs and nachos for sale. The community center will also be having a bake sale to raise money for new exercise equipment.

For guests who want to go through the haunted house more than once there is an unlimited wristband available for $12 for adults and $8 for kids. Normal admission is $7 for adults and $5 for kids. All proceeds go back to the Swim and Tennis Center programs.

From 6 to 7:30 p.m. each night the haunted house will be less scary to give younger kids a chance to enjoy it. Hyden said though the event is very family friendly, that’s not to say adults won’t enjoy it just as much as kids.

“I think people are surprised how much work we put into it,” she said. “Once they go through they are amazed that we have done all of this. They have always been very surprised. It’s worth it for all ages and very affordable. It’s worth the time and the money for sure.”
