Phoenix has initiated a public education campaign intended to help struggling homeowners in the city stave off foreclosure.

Foreclosures in the Phoenix metro area have been increasing over the past three months and are expected to continue to rise, according to the city's Neighborhood Services Department. This year, there have been 15,500 foreclosure notices filed and 9,200 homes foreclosed, according to city officials.

The city, in conjunction with the non-profit Arizona Foreclosure Prevention Task Force, is taking out media ads and placing notices in residents' utility bills in an attempt to publicize a free foreclosure prevention hotline at (877) 448-1211. Callers are connected with certified housing counseling agencies that assist them with options and resources.
