A 32-year-old male is facing kidnapping and aggravated assault charges after allegedly carjacking an elderly couple in Ahwatukee on Saturday.

Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department said Chateen Latfolla allegedly stole a vehicle from an elderly couple near 51st Street and Elliot Road.

The suspect's name was released on Sunday.

Authorities said they responded to a "fight" call Saturday afternoon after receiving reports that a man had strong-armed his way into a vehicle by pulling an 85-year-old woman from the driver's seat. The suspect drove off, not realizing that the woman's 91-year-old husband was in the back seat.

The man drove to the Wild Horse Pass Casino where he was eventually taken into custody, said Martos. The elderly man was found safe with security.

The woman was injured as she was pulled from the vehicle, said Martos. She is expected to be OK.

Police said Latfolla is now facing charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping, stolen vehicle and possession of narcotic drugs. He also had outstanding warrants, according to police.
