Department of Public Safety officials say the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 are now open after a deadly crash Monday night.

The accident happened around 8:20 p.m. on eastbound I-10 at the Chandler Boulevard exit.

DPS spokesman Carrick Cook said a Chevy pickup was getting on the highway at a high rate of speed when the driver, 54-year-old Randall Owens swerved to avoid a slower vehicle.

The passenger, 44-year-old Celia Owens and the driver were ejected through the passenger door into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10.

According to Cook, Owens was then run over by another vehicle that fled the scene.

Officials are looking for a truck with obvious signs of a crash. If you have any information regarding that vehicle contact DPS at 602-223-2111.

Celia Owens was declared dead at the scene, Randall Owens was admitted to an area hospital, his condition is unknown.
