Two men were shot after police say they tried to rob two people they were supposed to sell drugs to.

At about 9 p.m. on Sunday a 25-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman went to the area of 13200 S. 48th Street in Ahwatukee Foothills to buy drugs from someone they did not know, said Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department.

The two met a 27-year-old man and a 21-year-old man. At some point the 27-year-old took out a gun and tried to rob them, Thompson said. The 25-year-old pulled out his own gun and shot the two robbers, who fled. There may have been an exchange of gunfire.

The two robbers were later located and their injuries do not appear to be life threatening. No other information was immediately available.
