Phoenix police seek help in looking for five armed men suspected of an attempted robbery at an Ahwatukee jewelry store over the weekend.

Around noon on Saturday, police said five black men with handguns tried to rob Michael’s Creative Jewelry store near 48th Street and Ray Road.

At the time of the robbery attempt, several of the nine people who were in the store jumped the five men and a fight broke out, said Sgt. Tommy Thompson, a Phoenix Police Department spokesman.

The five men also tried to tie up some of the people in the store, who were both customers and employees, but were unsuccessful, Thompson said.

“All of this combined to scare off the suspects and they fled the scene empty handed,” Thompson said.

An older man that was involved in the fight suffered from facial bruising and a broken tooth, Thompson added.

Police described the five men as wearing beanies, bandanas and partial face masks.

Investigators are working to find additional details about the suspects.

Anyone with knowledge concerning this incident, or who knows the suspects, are is encouraged to contact the Phoenix Police Department at (602) 262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS, 480 TESTIGO for Spanish.
