United Blood Services has announced an urgent need for donors with O-, A-, B-, AB- and O+ blood types.

The cold and flu season has hit Arizona hard with 1,000 new cases recently, resulting in a high number of donors cancelling appointments.

United Blood Services is Arizona’s largest non-profit community blood provider, filling the transfusion needs of 58 hospitals.

Ahwatukee-area blood drives are:

• Sunday, Jan. 20, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 16223 S. 48th St.

• Monday, Jan. 21, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hobby Lobby, 4710 E. Ray Road.

• Monday, Jan. 28, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hobby Lobby, 4710 E. Ray Road.
