A 68-year-old Ahwatukee Foothills man died Monday night when he was run over by a car as he crossed mid-block on Elliot Road west of 48th Street, according to Phoenix police.

The next of kin of the victim, identified as Fred Beimly, has been notified of his passing, said Phoenix Police Department spokesman Trent Crump.

The accident happened at 9:15 p.m. when Beimly was walking north across Elliot Road and was struck by a westbound black 2005 Infiniti, Crump said. The driver was not judged to be impaired and apparently was not speeding, so he received no citation, Crump said.

“The victim was crossing mid-block in the dark,” Crump said. “It was an illegal action for the pedestrian.”

Police are processing the victim’s blood to scan for potential impairment as well, Crump said.
