After Ahwatukee Foothills and the rest of the Valley took a pounding from rainstorms this week, local officials are notifying residents of services available to help clean up in the storms' aftermath.

Steve Waters, a flood warning manager with the Flood Control District of Maricopa County, said that during Tuesday's heavy downpours, which included local reports of hail, rain gauges at Ray Road and 48th Street and at Loop 202 and 48th Street received .71 inches and nearly 1 inch of rainfall, respectively.

"A lot of these 3/4-inch amounts fell in about 15-minute periods. That's a pretty strong rain. It tends to run off right away," Waters said.

There are a number of Phoenix agencies and utilities that assist with cleanup and repairs in the aftermath of heavy storms. Residents in actual emergency situations should call 911.

Residents may request a free voucher this week to dispose of storm damage material at one of the city's transfer stations at 27th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road or North Gateway Transfer Station off of Interstate 17 and Dixileta Road. Residents should cover their loads and bring a city water bill and driver's license for proof of residency.
