Ahwatukee Foothills is left with only one urgent care facility after StatClinix Ahwatukee, at Ray Road and 44th Street, shut down late last week.

However, Ahwatukee Urgent Care, the remaining urgent care facility on the southwest corner of 46th Street and Chandler Boulevard, is prepared to handle the extra volume of patients, said director Jean Dorame.

"We're gearing up for that," she said. "We can take care of any emergency that walks through the door."

StatClinix officials did not return repeated phone messages, but signs on the door of the clinic's Ahwatukee location indicated the facility closed last Friday, and referred those needing treatment to Ahwatukee Urgent Care, which is affiliated with Chandler Regional Medical Center. Other signs informed patients that they can receive follow-up care or obtain medical records at StatClinix's five other Arizona locations in Mesa, Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, Payson and Show Low.

The company's website states that those with questions should call the Mesa clinic at (480) 610-0688.

Dorame said Ahwatukee Urgent Care, open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, normally sees up to 90 patients a day, and the number of visits goes up during the cold and flu season. Prior to StatClinix's closure, officials from both companies met to coordinate so local residents wouldn't be left without adequate treatment options, she said.

"We had discussed a strategy," Dorame said. "There was a lot of collegiality in the relationship."

If needed, Ahwatukee Urgent Care is prepared to hire additional physicians and nurses to handle the increased load, she said.

"It's a growth strategy for me," she said of StatClinix's closure. "We're committed to Ahwatukee."
