Phoenix resident Karlene Keogh Parks has filed a Notice of Candidacy with the city of Phoenix to run against current City Councilman Sal DiCiccio in the Aug. 27 election.

Parks, senior vice president of employee benefits at HUB International, filed her notice on March 5.

“I am running for Phoenix City Council District 6 because we must prioritize creating the jobs we need while continuing to focus on preserving the beauty of our neighborhoods — keeping them vibrant and our schools safe,” Parks said on her Facebook page, facebook.com/KarleneForCouncil.

In 2003 Parks co-founded the Keogh Health Connection, “a local nonprofit organization that connects underserved families and individuals and families in need of health care and community resources,” said a statement from her campaign.

Parks is active in many volunteer organizations including in the Boys and Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix, Fresh Start Women’s Foundation, Charter 100 and Phoenix Rotary Club, according to her Facebook page.

Currently, only DiCiccio and Parks are listed as candidates for the District 6 seat, though the final list of candidates on the ballot will not be prepared until June.

Districts 2, 4, 6 and 8 will elect a new City Council representative on Aug. 27. For more information, visit phoenix.gov/elections.
