An 18-year-old man died early Wednesday morning in a crash on Interstate 10 near Ahwatukee Foothills, according to officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The man has been identified as Rodolfo De La Luz Dominguez of Tempe.
According to DPS officials, Dominguez hit the median wall of the eastbound I-10 near Elliot Road at 2:30 a.m. while driving a 1999, four-door, black Mercedes. Authorities said he overcorrected a turn after drifting into the right lanes.
Dominguez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was sent to Maricopa County Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Carrick Cooks, a DPS spokesman.
The eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed for more than an hour Wednesday morning.
Authorities are investigating whether alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
