Phoenix Police Department officials said a 73-year-old Ahwatukee man was arrested on Monday after allegedly touching and grabbing members of the Desert Vista High School girls track team.

According to police, the team was running near 28th Street and Chandler Boulevard early Monday morning when a man was said to have been “cheering on the track team.”

“We talked to one of the coaches and developed information that he was actually out there standing nearby and grabbing the girls, making comments to them that they were ‘cute,’ and things of that nature,” said Sgt. Joel Tranter, of the Phoenix Police Department. “He was putting his hands on their arms or grabbing their buttocks as they ran by. He made contact with at least one girl’s breast.”

Miller, who may be suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, was arrested and charged June 17 for assault, Tranter said, adding that an adult relative was going to follow up and provide care for Miller.

No injuries were made and police said Miller was polite and cooperative.
