Police arrested 31-year-old Jose Angel Reyes Gonzales after he allegedly tried to grab a young girl around 6:30 a.m. May 13.

According to Sgt. Frank Matsko, the victim was watering plants in front of her home near 35th Street and Verbenna Drive when Reyes Gonzales approach and asked for a drink of water. The victim went inside and brought him a glass of water.

“When she gives him the glass he attempts to kiss her hand,” Matsko said.

“I don’t know what his intentions were,” said Matsko, but Reyes Gonzales, who was passing out fliers door-to-door, then took a picture of the victim with his cell phone and tried to grab her hand.

The victim told her parents and the police were called.

Officer Kwan Jin found the suspect and took him into custody without incident.

They also found the photo of the girl on his cell phone.

“Who knows what he would have done,” Matsko said.

Reyes Gonzales was booked for kidnapping and aggravated assault, but that may not be the end of his problems.

“His immigrations status was not verifiable and the authorities were notified,” Matsko said.
