Safe? really? I don't think so. Twilight, February 14th, bringing in my trash bins in from the street, I was accosted by a lurching hoodie dude yelling 'I'm your neighbor, wait! I'm your neighbor!" (obviously NOT my neighbor) I ran into my yard, slammed and locked the gate, and crouched behind the wall, hoping / waiting hoodie guy would pass by. He did not. He came to my garden gate, flicked a lighter at the gate latch trying to figure out how to open the gate, while whispering "You b****, where are you, you b****, come back'.

I waited till he left, armed myself with a putter, and machete, tried to remember where I hid the gun, and called the 911. 2 officers came, listened, said "Oh those are just magazine subscription gypsies; we have been getting calls for the last few days. Thanks for calling us, you did the right thing. Bye”

Wait, double u T F? The rest of the conversation went like this:

Me: So, what will you do now?

Officer: We’ll cruise, try to find him and move him along, but here is no law against it. There was law proposed a few years ago, but it did not pass b/c some people thought it was discriminatory. You should write your elected official and complain.

Me: Yeah, right, like Sal Diciccio? Our non-responsive councilman? Like, don’t talk to me about the decline of The Lakes Golf course and turning it into Section 8 housing? That elected official?

    Officer: (no comment)

Me: So, what are the guidelines for shooting the gypsies if they hop my wall or hit my gate?
Officer: Well if they are inside your garden gate, and only wounded, they will probably sue you. If you shoot them in the back, you’ll go to prison for life.

Me: Oh, ok, so I hear you, aim head or core, front facing, inside my property?
Officer: Have a nice night ma’am

    Me: Thanks for your service

I have never been afraid in Ahwatukee the 12 years I've been here, until last Thursday - listening to that weirdo whispering for me to come out freaked me out. So, I found the gun, I'm locked and loaded, (a little out of practice) but the soon-to be-closed Lakes golf course across the street will make a GREAT place to practice target shooting!

Welcome back to the hood Joel ;)
