The Phoenix Police Department has launched its Facebook page and will utilize the popular social media website as a tool to reach out and engage the community.

The public can now view photos, learn about upcomingPhoenixpolice-sponsored events and get information about safety programs offered by the department at facebook.com/phoenixazpolice.

“Social media has become a huge part of our society and many people use it to communicate their messages. It is important that thePhoenixpolice utilize this communication tool to invite the community to be more involved and learn more about what the men and women of the police department do for the community,” said Phoenix Police Chief Daniel V. Garcia.

Garcia cautions the public, however, not to report any kind of crime or provide any tips on the department’s Facebook page. Doing so could hinder an ongoing investigation or could possibly endanger people’s privacies.

The department’s Facebook page will be monitored daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
