Like most college seniors, Kristin Middleton has high hopes for her future.

But as the state’s youngest Republican delegate, her list of achievements has surpassed even her own goals.

As one of Arizona’s 29 delegates, Middleton is getting ready to head to the National Republican Convention in Florida this August.

Middleton, 21, of Ahwatukee Foothills, is also the president of Arizona State University’s College Republicans organization, majoring in political science.

“My parents are really proud and excited to go,” Middleton said.

After working for Sen. John McCain’s campaign in 2010 and most recently for the presidential campaign of Mitt Romney, the political science major said her next step after graduation is law school.

“I want to get a career (as a lawyer) going,” Middleton said, before continuing in politics.

But her passion for politics came at an early age. She remembers watching the presidential campaign for soon-to-be President George W. Bush against Al Gore, at the ripe age of 9.

Middleton credits her success to having a good support group with the College Republicans, her family’s motivation, and knocking on doors.

She advises any other young person to just “get out there and ask questions.”

Though she admits that one of her fears as a young delegate representing the state nationally is that she won’t be taken seriously.

“I think people at the convention will be surprised that a 21 year old got elected,” said Middleton, who also wants to be an advocate for other young people interested in politics.

“Younger people are America’s future.”
