Ahwatukee Foothills’ Desert Vista High School and Kyrene Altadeña Middle School were among a list of Arizona schools recently named as All Subject Higher Performing Schools.

The Arizona Business and Education Coalition, in partnership with the National Center for Educational Achievement, names elementary, middle and high schools in the state that have consistently outperformed others in one content area or more, and in all subjects tested by the Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS).

Kyrene de la Sierra Elementary in Ahwatukee, and Kyrene del Cielo Elementary in Chandler were also named as Higher Performing, but not All Subject, schools.

While all Higher Performing Schools will be celebrated, All Subject schools will receive special recognition on Dec. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Desert Willow Conference Center, 4340 E. Cotton Center Blvd. in Phoenix, according to a press release.

“It’s quite an honor to be recognized,” said Principal Nancy Corner of Altadeña. “We worked really hard on academic achievement.”

Desert Vista and Altadeña were two of nine schools in Arizona named as All Subject.

For the 2011-2012 AIMS scores, Dr. Anna Battle, principal at Desert Vista, said passing sophomores performed at 97 percent in reading, 91 percent in writing, 90 percent in math, and 80 percent in science.

“Success breeds success, and we strive to provide real experiences of success for each child at Desert Vista,” Battle said.
