A 23-year-old man is in stable condition after being stabbed repeatedly in the torso Friday night at an Ahwatukee Foothills Starbucks, Phoenix police say.

Police have arrested Michael Palmer, a white male, also 23, for aggravated assault, said Phoenix Police Department spokesman Trent Crump.

"He made an admission in an interview," Crump said.

The fight happened after midnight at the Starbucks at 45th Street and Chandler Boulevard, Crump said. The victim was taken to Maricopa Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for multiple wounds in the torso.

The suspect also received stitches for self-inflicted stab wounds in his forearms, police said.

"He had also apparently stabbed himself during the fight," Crump said.

Police arrested him at a home in the 4500 block of East Windsong Drive after receiving information at the crime scene, Crump said. At the home, they found evidence linking Palmer to the stabbing, police said.
