Closures for freeway improvement projects in the Phoenix area will be limited this weekend, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. A stretch of southbound Loop 202 near US 60 in east Mesa will be closed for resurfacing work. Drivers are asked to plan ahead and use alternate routes while the following restrictions are in place:

• Southbound Loop 202 closed between University Drive and Elliot Road in east Mesa from 9 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday (Oct. 28) for pavement resurfacing. Both US 60 ramps to southbound Loop 202 closed. DETOUR: Please consider alternate routes, including southbound Ellsworth Road, to travel beyond the freeway closure.

• Eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) on-ramp at Hawes Road closed from 5 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 27) for work on the future State Route 24 (Gateway Freeway) interchange. DETOUR: Please consider entering the east/northbound Loop 202 at either Power or Elliot roads.

For a complete list of highway and freeway restrictions across Arizona visit ADOT's Travel Information site at www.az511.gov or call 5-1-1. Another great way to find out more about ADOT's projects and programs to improve Arizona's transportation system is the ADOT blog at www.azdot.gov/blog.

ADOT plans and constructs new freeways, additional lanes and other improvements as part of the 20-year Regional Transportation Plan for the Maricopa County region. The primary funding source for regional freeway improvements is a half-cent sales tax approved by county voters in 2004. More information about ADOT projects and the regional plan is available at www.azdot.gov/PhoenixMetro.
