Detectives found more than 100 marijuana plants inside a home in Ahwatukee Foothills on Tuesday.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) served a search warrant to a home at 16830 S. Yellow Court on June 4. Inside the home detectives found more than 100 marijuana plants and a number of weapons, including an AK-47 and several handguns.

“Detectives found more than 100 marijuana plants along with elaborate equipment that indicated a sophisticated growing operation,” DPS said in a statement.

The investigation began Monday after a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Tonopah. Inside the vehicle officers, including a Canine Unit from DPS Highway Patrol, discovered seven pounds of high-grade Northern California marijuana.

“At that time Johnny Lee, 24, of Ahwatukee was arrested,” officials said. “He faces multiple charges, including transportation of marijuana, cultivation of marijuana, money laundering and weapons charges.”

That arrest led officers to Lee’s home in Ahwatukee where the plants were found.

Bart Graves of DPS said more arrests are pending, but at this time detectives believe Lee was the only resident at that home.
