Police nabbed two transients wanted for an April 19 armed robbery that started in the parking lot of a Fry's supermarket in the 3600 block of East Ray Road and ended in a dark Ahwatukee Foothills neighborhood.
Phoenix robbery detectives arrested Iris Jessica Ortiz, 32, and Jonathan Darrell Jarman, 36, at a Phoenix motel May 5 after they developed leads on the case.
Sgt. Trent Crump, a spokesman for the department, said that the original intent was prostitution. But when the victim declined Ortiz's proposition, "She pulled the gun and stuck it in his side," Crump said.
Ortiz then ordered the man to drive away in his vehicle with her in the back holding her gun, while Jarman followed in the couple's vehicle.
Crump said Jarman had second thoughts about the original plan, and when Ortiz ordered the victim to stop in a dark neighborhood, the two robbed the man and escaped.
Police were mum on how they discovered Ortiz and Jarman, but some of the stolen items were recovered during the investigation and both admitted their involvement, Crump said.
