Phoenix police are investigating the cause of an accident that sent a car into the median on 22nd Street near Chandler Boulevard on Wednesday morning.

“At 7 a.m. two vehicles were travelling eastbound on Chandler Boulevard around 2200 (block of Chandler Boulevard). The driver of a Nissan appears to have been making a lane change in front of an Escalade,” said Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department. “The Nissan clipped the front of the Escalade, causing them to lose control.”

Crump said the Nissan crossed the median and hit a large cactus before his car came to rest in the westbound lanes of traffic. The Phoenix Fire Department transported the driver of the Nissan to a local hospital in serious condition, but he was expected to be OK, Crump said.

The driver of the Escalade, a student at Desert Vista High School, was not hurt.

Crump said the investigation is ongoing.
