Two Ahwatukee Foothills middle school students were taken to a hospital Friday morning after fellow students turned them in for allegedly abusing prescription drugs brought from home.

If it's determined that they did abuse drugs at the school - Horizon Community Learning Center, 16233 S. 48th St. - the two students could face suspension or expulsion, said Melissa Hartley, school spokesperson.

"We have a code of conduct that has a drug policy," Hartley said.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, when other students told a staff member about the alleged drug abuse. School officials called an ambulance, and the two students were taken to a hospital for examination.

School administrators, in a letter to parents Friday, praised the students who reported the incident.

"We are proud of these students and all our students for caring about the health and safety of their fellow classmates and doing the right thing by coming forward," according to the statement.

Police were notified, as well, but it's unclear if any legal action will be taken against the students, Hartley said.
