An armed robbery at a Del Taco in Ahwatukee Foothills ended with an easy arrest Wednesday, police said.

The suspect entered the Del Taco near 48th Street and Chandler Boulevard a little after 2 p.m., said Matt Giordano of the Phoenix Police Department. Officers received many calls that a robbery was in progress and that the suspect was pointing a gun at the cashiers, Giordano said.

After receiving nothing from the cashiers the suspect changed his clothes and took off in a car, headed westbound on Chandler Boulevard, rather than eastbound toward the freeway. Eventually the suspect turned southbound down 48th Street, headed toward the police station, Giordano said.

Officers responding to the call left the station and discovered the suspect, who turned into the Pecos Community Center.

The suspect, Joseph Brilz, 30, was arrested in the parking lot, police said. Officers found the gun and two magazines on him, Giordano said.

Brilz was booked for one count of armed robbery, one count of aggravated assault and one count of misconduct with a weapon since Brilz is a prohibited possessor, according to police.
