A Phoenix police detective suspected of sexual conduct with minors was arrested Tuesday night, police said.
Detective Christopher J. Wilson, 43, was accused of sexual conduct with two minors, ages 14 and 17, after the younger victim disclosed incidents of sexual misconduct, which were believed to have happened over the past few months, said Sgt. Trent Crump, a Phoenix Police Department spokesman.
Wilson later admitted to the misconduct with the two victims after he was booked into jail on 10 counts of sexual conduct with a minor, Crump said.
Police believe Wilson met the two victims through his duties with the police department.
At the time of his arrest, Wilson resigned from the department after a 13-year career to avoid being fired, Crump said.
“These are very serious felony charges and the Phoenix Police Department is committed to seeing that justice is served for these victims,” Crump added.
Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton issued a statement Wednesday regarding the arrest. He mentioned the “act of one officer does not reflect on the police department as a whole.”
“A crime against a child is horrible and unimaginable on its own, but when someone of authority you trust is the suspect, it becomes something far worse,” Stanton said.
