The Ahwatukee Foothills News took home some top honors Saturday night at the Arizona Newspapers Association’s Better Newspapers Contest.

For the second year in a row, the Ahwatukee Foothills News took first place for “Best Newspaper Website.”

Sports writer Jason P. Skoda won first place in “Best Sports Column” for “Struggling with the IOC decision to drop wrestling,” and took second place in the same category for, “Reach the real Holy Land.” He won another second place award in the “Best Team, Sport or Sports Beat Coverage” category for his coverage of Mountain Pointe’s run to the Division I state title game in football.

Photographer David Jolkovski won first place in “Best Sports Photograph” for his “Pole Vaulting” photos. He took second place in the “Best News Photograph” category for his “9/11 Memorial” photos, and third in “Best Feature Photograph” for his “Bloody actors” photos.

In advertising design, Holli Roach took first place for “Most Effective Use of Small Space” for My Wine Cellar, and won third place in “Best Online Ad-Static” for Pearson Orthodontics.

All of the AFN’s awards were won in the non-daily greater than 10,000 circulation division.
