The highly anticipated opening of Chick-fil-A in Ahwatukee Foothills, at 5035 E. Ray Road, has been postponed after the death of franchise owner and operator Ted Christy.

“We at Chick-fil-A are deeply saddened by the death of Operator Ted Christy,” said Tim Tassopoulos, executive vice president of operations for Chick-fil-A, Inc., in an official company statement. “Ted was a member of the Chick-fil-A family for nearly 23 years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and team members.

“All activities related to the grand opening of the Ahwatukee Foothills Town Center restaurant, including the First 100 camp out, are postponed until further notice.”

The restaurant was expected to open on Thursday, April 4 at 6 a.m. with festivities and a giveaway of Chick-fil-A for a year for the first 100 adults in line.

Chick-fil-A in Ahwatukee Foothills will employ more than 70 people and have a double drive-thru. There will be space for 140 diners inside.

Christy and his wife, Laurie, also own the Chick-fil-A on Stapley Drive in Mesa.
