Desert Vista High School graduate Chelsea Wold was named one of this year’s Fiesta Bowl court members, gaining a $5,000 scholarship.

Wold, 22, was selected for the court of six out of more than 200 applicants for the Fiesta Bowl Queen and Court Scholarship Program.

“She was very happy to be able to represent the community,” said Wold’s mother, Marie.

Wold grew up in Ahwatukee Foothills, where she attended Kyrene de la Estrella Elementary School, Kyrene Akimel A-al Middle School and Desert Vista.

Now attending the University of Arizona pursuing a dual degree in psychology and journalism, Wold is hoping to start law school after graduation in May.

The scholarship program first started in 1971 and is open to young women currently attending school full time.

During the Fiesta Bowl parade last weekend, the queen and court made an appearance to greet sports fans and are also presented during the game’s halftime show.

Since moving to Tucson in 2009, Wold has served the area with numerous organizations and community service hours. The Fiesta Bowl was also the first time Wold had ever entered into a pageant-style program.

“We’re blessed, it inspires kids when I talk about her as an example,” Marie added.
