Now that summer is over and kids are going back to school the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce is getting “Back to Business” with an open house this Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The chamber moved to a new location at 4435 E. Chandler Blvd., Suite 140, in March but events like Red, White and Beautiful; the annual golf tournament; and Red, White and Boom have made it difficult to hold an official open house.
“We thought it was time,” said Anne Gill, president and CEO of the chamber. “We’ve had a lot of businesses tell us it’s been a rough summer. Now everyone is back from vacation, kids are back in school, and I think everyone is refocusing on their business and we’re here to support that and give them resources. That’s why this is back to business. Let’s all get back together and reenergized and reconnect.”
Residents and business owners will be able to find information on many of the programs and resources the chamber supplies to members like SCORE Counseling, Toastmasters, Women in Business, Chamber Ambassadors and many different networking events.
“We represent over 450 businesses here locally,” Gill said. “We provide networking and visibility opportunities for businesses through our website, our eblasts, being involved in a committee or getting exposure as a sponsor. We’re building a community overall. It’s a healthy community and it has a healthy business community.”
The open house will also be a good chance for members to meet the chamber staff and learn about how to take advantage of the chamber’s newly improved website.
With the new site members each have their own login so they can update their own information. The searchable format makes it more user friendly for residents looking for businesses or upcoming events.
There have been a lot of changes to the chamber since Gill took control in November of 2011. She says there’s more to come.
“We’re working on some new projects and programs that will launch probably in the beginning on the year,” Gill said. “We’re always looking to improve and asking for feedback from our members and those that are involved. We’re trying to be more efficient. We’re small on staff and we realize we have to be efficient with our time. We really couldn’t run without all our volunteers and the members.”
A constant goal of the chamber is to add more members. Gill said more members makes for a stronger voice and better opportunities for all. She hopes this open house will be a good way to show all businesses in the area what the chamber can do.
“We’re here to help the business community,” Gill said. “Our goal is to make Ahwatukee and the neighboring areas a strong economic area and to give our residents places to shop, to eat, to get services. It’s been a struggling economy and we’re here to help businesses grow and keep going.”
