Fourteen local restaurants are coming together on Saturday to help raise money for Mountain View Lutheran’s youth ministries and to give guests a taste of Ahwatukee.

The Eighth Annual Tasting Ahwatukee event will give visitors a chance to sample food from 14 local eateries, including four that are new to the area: Can’t Stop Smokin Barbeque, Gigi’s Cupcakes, Agave Wine Bar and Bistro, and Wedge and Bottle Cheese Shop.

There will also be live music at the event, which will go from 6 to 9 p.m. at Mountain View Lutheran Church, 11002 S. 48th St., along with a silent auction.

“From the start it has always been a fundraiser for our youth ministries,” said Colin Noonan, director of youth ministries for Mountain View Lutheran. “We budget that money differently every year. It always seems to center around providing some programs to our students and giving them a chance to maybe go to camp or do a trip or a retreat. We do camp and trip scholarships. It’s always a successful event and we’re hoping this year will be the same.”

Noonan said his favorite part of is the community involvement.

“I just like the fact that we can bring the community together, centered around raising money for our youth program,” he said. “It’s not a church event. It’s an event that the church puts on. It’s a community event. We open up our campus to the community and allow them to come on in, check out some food, and have a good time.”

Pre-sale tickets are $8. Kids under 3 get in free. Tickets can be purchased online at tastingahwatukee.com, at the Mountain View Lutheran office, or inside Café Soul, which is located on campus.

Tickets the day of the event will be $10.
