After a successful year reaching a goal of $10,000 last year for Valley Dogs, an Ahwatukee Foothills couple is at it again organizing a local golf tournament for a cause that means so much.
Valley Dogs is a local rescue group with no facility or paid employees. It’s a network of people who take in unwanted dogs and find them foster homes until they can be adopted out.
Volunteers who foster the dogs pay for everything except vet bills, which Ahwatukee Foothills resident Marci Miller said can be about $70,000 per year for the organization.
Marci and her husband, Josh, have been fostering dogs through Valley Dogs for years. They’ve even ended up adopting some of the puppies they take in that they can’t find a home for elsewhere. Currently, they have five dogs of their own and continue to foster puppies whenever they can.
Still, the Millers wanted to do more so last year they organized their first Fore the Dogs Charity Golf Tournament. They raised almost $10,000 for Valley Dogs and had so much fun doing it that they voted to change the name — it’s now the Fore the Dogs Charity Golf Party.
The goal for fundraising this year has been set at $15,000. The event, which is sponsored by Ahwatukee Skin and Laser, will be on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Ahwatukee Country Club, 12432 S. 48th St.
There will be a 1 p.m. shot gun start. Following the tournament there will be a barbecue dinner, raffle items and silent auction. Chandler Harley Davidson is giving golfers a shot to win a 1200 XL Sportster in a hole-in-one challenge.
