The Phoenix City Council voted unanimously on Wednesday to revert parking meter enforcement hours back to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning immediately.

The information labels on the meters will be changed over the next few weeks to reflect the new hours.

The city of Phoenix provides digital coin operated parking meters for convenient, short-term parking and currently has about 2,400 meters in the downtown, Capitol and uptown areas.

The rate for parking meters citywide remains at $1.50 per hour.

In addition, the Phoenix City Council authorized the Street Transportation Department to begin the procurement process for new parking meter technology, which can include advancements such as credit card single-space and multi-space meters.

When the new meters are installed, hours of enforcement may be reevaluated.
