"Adorned in Memories, Written in Stone," an exhibit of artist-made altars inspired by Día de los Muertos, will be on display Oct. 24 to Nov. 5 in Burton Barr Central Library's @Central Gallery, located on the first floor at 1221 N. Central Ave.

Concurrent with the altar exhibit, papier-mâché "Mascaras del Muerto" by artist Irma Sanchez will be on display in the library's Arizona Room.

Traditional Día de los Muertos altars range from simple to elaborate displays. They typically include photos of the deceased, candles, flowers, incense, fruit, bread and things the deceased person enjoyed in life, including favorite food and beverages. The altars on exhibit range from remembrances of loved ones to a celebration of people connected to the history of the Grand Canyon and the Hohokam.
