A 30-year-old man committed suicide on an Ahwatukee Foothills street Monday night, police said.

Just before 9 p.m. on June 10 police responded to a call of a subject with a gun in the 13800 block of South 41st Place, said Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department. When they arrived they located a 30-year-old man, whose name has not been released by police.

“They gave him commands to drop the gun, which he ignored,” Martos said. “He ultimately raised the gun and shot himself. He was pronounced deceased on scene.”

This was the second shooting of the day in Ahwatukee. Police responded to a murder-suicide earlier near 34th Street and Chandler Boulevard.
